about

Sea of Limbs is a collaboration between members of Portsmouth based bands Battery Hens and Noyo Mathis written and recorded at DIY space The Fishtank in 2018. The album was engineered and mixed by Rusty Sheriff (Prrk Industries).

Started whilst our main bands were on a break, the project was a fun but short lived experiment that came to a standstill when our drummer Dan moved to America. While we never played a gig, we did manage to write an albums worth of material. We decided we liked the songs enough to record them and the bulk of the tracks were captured in a frenzied one day live session a week or so before he left.

The sound is heavily informed by bands of the American Indie Underground, classic British Post-Punk and the avant-garde stylings of Beefheart, Swans and The Velvet Underground to name a few. The idea was to create something stripped back and a little reigned in compared to our previous efforts whilst retaining the angular aspects of both Battery Hens and Noyo Mathis that brought us together.
We’re really proud of what we recorded and hope you enjoy it. We still don’t have any real aspirations for it, but if you enjoyed our previous bands this might be of interest. If you do enjoy this and haven’t heard those bands before, please check them out. Both had equally laboured album releases that we’re very proud of.

Cheers.
